Hemdal says that although Kane has evolved to meet current trends in technology and equipment, the core values of the company remain unchanged, such as the ability to adjust to adversity.
“We have always been flexible and able to adapt to a changing market and business environment, whether we’re developing new or innovative products, or redesigning preexisting models to meet the needs and price points of our customers. Plus, we’ve always had a core group of talented individuals employed in both the shop and in the office. Retaining talent who believes in our company vision is imperative to our success.”
Since 1890, Kane Innovations, Inc. has endured, despite regional closures from other, similarly-sized manufacturing outfits such as Kane Handle, Affiliated Industries, Stack Pole Corporation and Houston Electronics, which resulted in the displacement of workers and contributed to local population decline. Mr. Hemdal said that an ongoing goal is to continue to see Kane operate as a viable employer within the local community.
Tom Hemdal is still proud of the company he has helped grow and prosper, even after all of his years as a senior staff member there.
“It’s interesting to see something start on paper, materialize into a tangible product, then be used in a variety of real life situations. When traveling, I enjoy pointing out our product installations to family and friends,” said Hemdal. “It’s an honor to work for a company that has had such an important impact on the American landscape, and I look forward to our next 125 years of innovation.”
Mr. Hemdal holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Penn State University. He resides in Kane with his wife, Barbara, and their two children.
