Kane Innovations’ project partner and customer, Heinaman Contract Glazing, installed the screens on all first floor windows of the L.A. River School, ArtLab, Early College Academy of Leaders and Scholars, School of History and Dramatic Art, and the Alliance Technology and Math Science High School. To deter forcible entry, vandalism, and glass breakage, the entrances and classrooms – plus windows in the cafeteria and library – were all outfitted with security screens. Approximately 1,300 of Kane’s screens were used on the beautiful, 220,094 square-foot campus, designed by HMC Architects.
The school officially opened its doors to students and staff in September 2011 and has since achieved LEED Gold certification by the United States Green Building Council. Sonia M. Sotomayor Learning Academies excelled in the “Optimize Energy Performance” category, earning eight out of ten possible points. Kane’s products contributed to the score, due to the screens’ ability to provide increased energy savings and solar shading.
To date, Kane has completed work on over 60 LAUSD buildings.
