Niagara Gorge Discovery and Hiking Trails

NIAGARA FALLS BOASTS NEARLY 22 MILLION VISITORS PER YEAR. WITH THAT KIND OF FOOT TRAFFIC, SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT.

Visitor welfare is a priority in all areas of the world’s 9th largest tourist destination, including the nearby hiking trails at the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation (NY State Parks).

When general contractor, CPCiminelli, and landscape architects, Trowbridge Wolf Michaels, approached Kane Innovations to create a strong and sturdy railing that met NY State Parks’ requirements, the team couldn’t have been more excited to take on the challenge.

Although the initial railing design plans called for a custom, stainless steel cast post, Kane Innovations provided an alternative solution that improved the aesthetics and function of the railing, while reducing customer costs.

To prevent seams where a 3-piece cast mold would’ve been bolted together, Kane Innovations instead waterjet cut the two widest parts of the stainless steel posts in full, then welded the two opposite formed pieces together.  This modification proved to be a more aesthetically pleasing, seamless option and even lightened the load of an already heavy railing, for easier installation.

Established in 1885, Niagara Falls State Park is America’s oldest state park, home to one of three world-renowned waterfalls situated at the Canada-U.S. border.  For more information, visit www.niagarafallsstatepark.com.
